NORTHVILLA:
"Our aims for the season are to win the league and to have a run in the cup, any cup," says Northvilla secretary George Feehan. George is happy enough with the current league position. Northvilla play in a very competitive AUL 2B and are in the hunt and looking forward to next Sunday morning's big derby against title rivals Bohemians.
Manager Tony Goldsmith and his assistant Thomas Woods are getting the best from their panel which consists of Robby O'Driscoll, Paul O'Connor, Dave Murphy, Stephen Goldsmith, Mark Goldsmith, Ger Stanton, Wesley Dennehy, Pat Sheehan, Jason Barrett, leading scorer Liam Dennehy, Thomas Woods, Brian Kelleher, and Paul Freyne.
Feehan's comrades on the Northvilla committee are Thomas Dennehy (chairman), Ger Dennehy (treasurer) and Teddy Dennehy. The Dennehy connection is inescapable if you want to talk about Northvilla football club. Michael Dennehy (senior) was one of the founding members.
Ger is the club's leading all time goalscorer. He also holds the AUL
individual scoring record for one match, registering all ten as the 'Villa
trounced Crosshaven back in February 1979. Ger's brother Liam had a spell with
Cork Celtic while another brother, Thomas, was with League of Ireland clubs
Limerick and Cork Celtic. Former international Miah Dennehy is a cousin.
Northvilla top achievement came in 1995 when they were champions in AUL Premier A. In 1980/81, they defeated Ballincollig in the replayed final of the AUL first division championship. In 1978/79, Northvilla reached the AOH final but lost to Grangevale. Two years earlier, they had been beaten by Garda in the O'Keeffe Cup decider.
