AUL and MFA 1993

CORK SOCCER CONTRIBUTORS:

Between them, the O'Driscoll brothers, Denis and Jack, have made a huge

contribution to football in the Cork area. Currently, Denis is assistant

secretary to both the AUL and the MFA while Jack, a member of the MFA, is

chairman of the Cork Shipping League.

Denis played youth football with St Mary's and later served on the committee.

He then became involved with the Cork Celtic supporters club and acted as

chairman for four years.

In 1966, he was a founder member of Tonyville, played with them and served on

the committee for 14 years.

He joined the AUL in 1974 and has been treasurer, secretary, and chairman

(1988/89).

Jack's first involvement with Shipping League football was back in 1966 with

Olympic (later to become Byrne's). When the club folded, Jack stayed with the

Shipping League as a committee member and is still there. He has been with

the league since 1971 and was elected chairman in 1988.

Both the O'Driscolls have been instrumental in the improvement in Turner's

Cross in recent years but particular credit is due to Jack. He is the

groundsman at the venue and the much praised playing surface is his pride and

joy.
