BALLINCOLLIG AFC
Ballincollig's A team may be taking all the headlines with their magnificent run to the sixth round of the Statoil FAI Junior but the B side, under the management team of Mick O'Mahony and Pat Kelly, are also going well.
Despite last week's late collapse against Bandon, they are well placed in Murphy's Stout AUL 3 where skipper Adrian O'Mahony and top scorer Alan Carroll are showing the way. Their main aim now is to gain promotion to the second division. But injuries are hampering them and they are lacking the experience of Micky Duggan who is wished a speedy recovery.
Their best league win was an exciting 2 - 1 derby victory over leaders Lakewood. They turned in another super show when defeating Ballinhassig 6 - 1 on their way to the quarter-finals of the President's Cup where Hillington pipped them.
The panel is: Evan Mohally, Colin Herlihy, Declan Flanagan, Adrian O'Mahony, Trevor O'Mahony, Diarmuid O'Herlihy, Alan Carroll, Terry Yelverton, Martin Fitzpatrick, Mick Duggan, Larry Duggan, Mark McCormack, Shane Cadogan, Vincent Twomey, Neil Donovan, and Jason Doyle.
Martin O'Neill, the manager of the A team, was recently named Ballincollig Sportsperson of the Year for his commitment and dedication over twenty years. Denis Campion and Finbarr Fitton manage the AUL Youths team while the U17s are in the capable hands of Michael Collins.
Club secretary Gerardine McNamara tells us that the annual Golf Classic will take place on May 11th in Macroom. McNamara's fellow officers are Pat Kavanagh (chairperson), Danny Garrett (Vice Chairperson), Christy White (treasurer), Mick O'Mahony (assistant secretary), Paul Doyle and Richie Goggin (assistant treasurers), Joe Hegarty (PRO).
Other committee members are: Michael McNulty, Denis Campion, Michael Collins, John O'Sullivan, Pat Morrissey, Martin O'Neill, and Ber Daly. John Hogan is president and the vice presidents are John Coughlan, Michael Healy, Vincent Drumm, and Patrick Byrne.
