AUL v MSL, FAI Youths quarter-final, Turner's Cross, Sunday 11.00am.
The MSL youths side, backboned by promising players from Cork City and Cobh Ramblers, will be hot favourites to defeat the AUL in Sunday's quarter-final tie in the Snickers FAI Youths Championship. But Liam McCarthy's underdogs will be no pushovers and an exciting contest is on the cards. Kick off in Turner's Cross is 11.00am.
This is the third home game in a row for the AUL. In round one at Turner's Cross, they defeated Kerry 3 - 2 before beating Clare 3 - 0 in Midleton. Meanwhile, the Donal Buckley managed MSL were on the road and recording hard earned 1 - 0 wins over Waterford and then Limerick.
McCarthy had his charges in action in midweek and they had a satisfactory workout against a MFA Under 17 selection. Goals by the Douglas pair, Paul Rose (2) and Derek Bowen (2), a major contribution from the Kilreen contingent, and a fine display by Bandon full back Niall O'Regan, earned the AUL a 4 - 1.
A repeat of that form and Wexford manager Mick Wallace, who has already tipped the MSL to win, could have surprise opponents in the semi-final. Galway, comfortable winners over Mayo last Sunday, will play either the Eircom League or Dublin AUL in the other semi-final.
The AUL panel is: Kevin Im, Willie Lee, Dave Bennett, Ger Kerins, and Jonathan Kelleher, (all Kilreen Celtic); Paul Rose, Derek Bowen, James O'Leary, Brian Wilkinson (Douglas Hall); Ben Spicer, Mark Murphy (Tramore Ath.); Tommy Dekkers, Killian Lordan (Ballincollig); Trevor Fitzgerald, Ollie Lynch, and Aidan O'Driscoll (Midleton); Niall O'Regan, Danny Lynch (Bandon); Thomas Gettings (Leeside); Michael McBride (Rockmount); and Jamie Cotter (Crosshaven).
